Zones & Trails

Picture
Areas (hectares) of zones were determined from the aerial photo using image analysis software. Four of the forested zones are aspen parkland dominated by aspen poplar, white spruce and jack pine, whereas one is a black spruce muskeg with deep moss underlain by water. Meadows were formerly harvested for hay but have now been reclaimed by many kinds of plants. Beaver dams are shown where they were located in September of 2013. The only way to cross between zones is over beaver dams. Lengths of trail segments were determined using a Garmin 210 GPS watch worn while walking the trail. The entire property is 1/2 mile x 1/2 mile or about 800 x 800 m.
