Reforestation
Reforestation has been occurring since 1993 when harvest of hay from meadow areas was halted. Aspen have been moving into meadows via underground suckers, while birch have seeded themselves not far from forested areas. Spruce seeds have blown into meadows and the trees are growing vigourously. The narrow portion in the north part of Cabin Meadow is now completely covered with trees. Eventually all open meadow areas will return to forest, except where the soil is too wet for spruce. Willow will predominate in those zones.
